Swimming Kicks Off Second Half Against Rival Fork Union

On Friday, January 15th, the Hargrave Tigers hosted rival Fork Union Military Academy in the ODAC to open up the second half of their season. Ultimately the Tigers fell 61-29 but each individual was able to leave the meet with a positive takeaway.

For the Tigers, Friday’s meet marked the first in-person meet this season, which was a welcomed event. With outstanding support from faculty and staff, Hargrave even had the opportunity to introduce four new swimmers to the world of competitive swimming! Although the Tigers did not fare well as a team, there were a variety of strong individual performances that are noted below.

Bryce Adkins ’23–Showed tremendous potential in his first competitive swim meet
Logan Bonan ’23–Showed tremendous potential in his first competitive swim meet
Gage Crisp ’21–Set personal best time in the 100 Yard Freestyle
Nicholas de Veer ’21–Qualified for the VISAA State Meet in the 100 Yard Breaststroke and 50 Yard Freestyle Bonus
Malachi Dixon ’24–Dropped times in both the 50 Yard Freestyle and 100 Yard Freestyle
Nathan Higdon ’21–Qualified for the VISAA State Meet in the 100 Yard Fly and 200 Yard Individual Medley (personal best time)
Thomas Kidd ’22–Qualified for the VISAA State Meet in the 50 Yard Freestyle Bonus in his first competitive swim meet
John Mauriello ’21–Dropped two seconds in both of his events
Wesley Marquardt ’21–Dropped over two seconds in the 100 Yard Freestyle
John Ratchford ’22–Dropped .30 seconds in the 100 Yard Breaststroke
Mason Rucker ’22–Showed tremendous potential in his first competitive swim meet
Peter Shidler-Smith ’24–Showed tremendous potential in his first competitive swim meet
Patrick Souza ’25–Completed six successful dives (as the team’s sole diver)
Ethan Teluk ’22–Performed well in the 200 Yard Freestyle
Jay Thompson ’21–Dropped time from the first meet and came within 1 second of his personal best in the 100 Yard Breaststroke
