The Varsity Tigers fell to the Virginia Episcopal School (Lynchburg, VA) Bishops 3-6. Dmitri Darroll had a rough welcome back from his hiatus with a tough match against VES’s Nero Cao. The match score of 1-10 does not reflect the six games that balanced at deuce for multiple points that fell in favor of the VES player. Dan Kim and Haotian Liu were able to prolong their battles with their singles opponents before falling 4-10 and 6-10, respectively. With the singles blanked out 0-6, the Tigers rallied back to put some team points up on the doubles side. At First Doubles, Darroll paired up with Kim to post a 8-3 win. Zach Bunner paired up with a fresh Turner Wall to fight off a late rally from a determined VES duo at 6-3 to finish with a 8-6 victory at Third Doubles. Liu and Weian Chen were less successful against their opponents, but kept play going to a 5-8 loss.
This Friday’s match at Blue Ridge has been rescheduled to Saturday, April 27th giving the Tigers a week to prepare for three away matches and finishing up regular season play with a home match against powerhouse Eastern Mennonite School (Harrisonburg, VA) on May 2. The Tigers next match will be at Carlisle on April 25th at 4:30 pm on the clay courts of Chatmoss Country Club.
