Tigers Battle Course Conditions; Draw with Timberlake Christian

The Hargrave Tigers took the short trip to Forest, Virginia on Tuesday afternoon to square off with Timberlake Christian School at Ivy Hills Golf Club. After a grueling nine holes, the Tigers ended their match with the Tornadoes in a 204-204 tie, moving their overall record to 2-4-1.

After a scheduling hiccup in terms of venue, the Tigers had the opportunity to compete at Ivy Hills Golf Club, which boasts an extremely challenging back nine holes. Despite these circumstances, Hargrave was ready to compete against both their opponent and the course. “We played the back 9 at Ivy Hills, which is a bear of a course,” remarked Head Coach Richard Phillips. “The fairways are narrow, the rough and hazards are more difficult than most, and it’s hilly. Even with these challenges, our young men embraced everything they had learned prior to the match and gave an outstanding effort!”

The Tigers were paced by junior Carter Brinson (Charlotte, NC) who posted a team best 43 as he continues to solidify himself as one of the top golfers in the VIC. Hargrave also got strong contributions from a pair of rising stars, who continue to improve match by match. Junior Davis Talley (Clayon, NC) and sophomore Jonathan Posey (Forest, VA) both posted personal bests as they carded 52 and 59 respectively.

Hargrave is back in action on Thursday afternoon (4/22) as they head to Waynesboro, VA to compete against rival Fishburne Military School. Tee off is slated for 4:30 PM.
