On Thursday afternoon, the Hargrave Tigers wrapped up their second match of the week as they hosted North Cross at Cedars Country Club. After a competitive round, the Tigers emerged victorious 216-219!

After a heartbreaking loss on Tuesday afternoon against Carlisle in which the young Tiger team posted their best team round of the season, Head Coach Richard Phillips was able to rally the troops and get his group re-energized for their match with North Cross. “We’re really starting to hit our stride,” noted Phillips, “This group is coming together and really learning how to support one another and focus on controlling their minds. Golf is such a mental game, much more than it is physical, and I’m proud of the improvements we continue to make on the course!”

The Tigers were paced by Carter Brinson ’22 (Charlotte, NC), Sage Wood ’24 (Earlysville, VA) and Davis Talley ’22 (Clayotn, NC) for the second straight match. Brinson, who has been the team leader and medalist throughout the season, is enjoying his teammates continue to make vast improvements in their game. Brinson states, “It’s really awesome as a captain to see my teammates make progress. Sage (Wood) and Davis (Talley) have been outstanding additions to our team and they’ve been putting in a bunch of work on the weekends to knock strokes off their games. I’m excited to continue this momentum!”

The Tigers, now 2-4 on the season, have a pair of road matches next week as they’ll start off the week on Tuesday April 20th when they head to Ivy Hills Golf Club (Forest, VA) for a match against Timberlake Christian School. The match is set for 4:30 PM.
