Tigers Beat Rival

Jeremy Eubank

Last Thursday afternoon, the Tigers hit the road to Waynesboro, VA to take on rival Fishburne Military School. Getting off to an early start, the Tigers never looked back for the 3-0 win.

Starting the scoring for the Tigers was senior midfielder Ebrahim Al-Aghbari (Yemen), who put away the opening goal from 6 yards out off of a rebound from the Fishburne goalkeeper to make it 1-0 in the 6th minute. “We spend a lot of time working on making runs into the boxes,” stated Head Coach Jeremy Eubank. “It was good to see that these repetitions have become habits.”

It did not take the Tigers long to get on the board again, as Al-Aghbari found fellow senior midfielder Youssef Abouzied (Cairo, Egypt) for the Tigers’ second goal in the 9th minute. The Tigers would go on to close out the half with a 2-0 lead as they outshot the Fishburne Cassions 10-2 in the first half and out possessed them 66% to 34%. “It was good to see us be able to maintain possession and dominate the field of play against one of our rivals,” stated Eubank.

In the second half, the Tigers were able to add to the scoreboard in the 55th minute as Al-Aghbari found junior forward Paul Hughes (Danville, VA) off of a beautifully placed corner kick to make it 3-0. In the shutout, the Tigers were led by senior goalkeeper Jean-Luc Latry (Haiti) with 4 saves and a backline combination of Jesse Vogg (Chatham, VA), Hayden Everett (Danville, VA), Jonathan Acree (Goldsboro, NC), Patrick Lord (Nashville, TN), Luc Garcia Quintana (Raleigh, NC), and Graham Kelly (Mount Pleasant, SC).

The Tigers return to action on Tuesday, October 24 as they travel to Harrisonburg, VA to face Eastern Mennonite High School in the first round of the VIC tournament. Game time is set for 4:00 PM.
