This past Saturday afternoon, Hargrave reclaimed the title of the First Piedmont Corp. Invitational as they dismantled rival Massanutten, 82-62. Five Tigers scored in double figures, led by Jordan Johnson who scored 12 points. “It’s always great beating a rival,” remarked Head Coach, Lee Martin. “It’s even better when you beat a rival to claim a tournament championship. I’m proud of how we protected our home court this weekend!”

Full of confidence, coming off their 7th straight win, Hargrave took a trip to one of college basketball’s most revered venues, the Dean E. Smith Center, more formally known as the Dean Dome, for a matchup against UNC Chapel Hill’s JV team. “This is always one of the best experiences,” said Martin. “To have our guys play in the same arena as so many great players, teams, and National Champions is a huge honor!”

The Tigers were paced by K.D. Johnson’s 18 points, as they set the tone early, playing their frenetic up-tempo pace. However, UNC weathered the storm and made runs of their own, keeping the game within striking distance for most of the evening. Greg Billups, who added three points, hit a massive shot in crunch time to help lead Hargrave to victory as the Tigers prevailed victorious, 95-82, while five guys notched double figures in the scoring column.
