Tigers Cap Off Week with Second Straight Win!

Benjamin J Veshi

Thursday afternoon marked the tenth golf match of the season for the Hargrave Tigers and they continued their positive momentum, earning a 207-213 victory over Miller School. The victory marked the second straight for the Tigers and moved their overall record to 4-5-1 heading into the final week of the regular season.

Among the many courses that Hargrave has been fortunate to play on this year, on Thursday afternoon, they encountered something that had not yet seen this season. Old Trail Golf Club in Crozet, Virginia provides a beautful but challenging layout and for the Tigers, that challenge came in the form of water. For the first time this season, Hargrave had to shoot over water and that challenge came with a number of hiccups as the Tigers as a team lost three golf balls (six penalty strokes) in the water on the very first hole.

Head Coach Richard Phillips remarked, “It was quite the challenge for our guys but I’m extremely proud to say they survived their baptism by fire! Today’s victory was a tribute to the persistence and determination of this group!”

The Tigers were paced by their team leaders, Carter Brinson ’22 (Charlotte, NC) and Sage Wood ’24 (Earlysville, VA) as they continue to make positive strides heading into the final week of the regular season with a chance to secure a .500 record which is quite the accomplishment for this young group.

Hargrave is back in action on Monday May 3rd as they host Virginia Episcopal School at Cedars Country Club. Tee off is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
