Tigers Continue Their Victorious Streak

Katie Markunas

Friday night the Tigers hosted both Carlisle School and Fishburne Military School and defeated both in grand fashion. It was a fast meet, as our Tigers did out number our opponents, but had to work to keep up with the shorter heats, and less rest between swims!

Final Scores:
HMA 194 v. FMS 79
HMA 190 v. CS 57
FMS 113 v. CS 71

The double-dual win marches the Tigers record on to an impressive 11-1 record.

There were many outstanding swims tonight! Of the 20 swimmers who swam, every single athlete dropped time in at least one of their events. There were several races were HMA took two of the top spots, or even swept the event. At this point in the season, dropping even .01 of a second is a huge deal and can make or break someone’s eligibility for the state meet.

However, the boys worked hard and brought some great attitude to the deck, as usual. They started off the night with an exciting medley relay of Bordelon, Rogers, White, and DeAngelis which finally secured their relay state cut!

David Kiesnowski, swam his first ever 200 IM and did it without his goggles as they filled up and he had to discard them, but never broke stroke or gave up!

In the 50 free, of the 9 swimmers who swam, all of them dropped time. This is a feat because the race lasts for less than 30 seconds and is only two laps of the pool.

Freshman Bjorn Brinkley dropped almost 15 seconds off his 500 free time, and was kept in good company by his teammates senior Wyeth Davis and junior Annad Khraisat, both of whom bettered their times!

Hargrave went 1-2 in the 200 free relay and showed some good technique in the water. In the 100 breast, junior Luis Vale showed his true colors and, in an event not often swum by him, dropped over 15 seconds. HMA finished up the night by clinching the 400 freestyle relay quickly and gracefully.

Swimmers will be back in action on Tuesday for senior day where we will honor both ours and Chatham Hall’s Senior Swimmers! Then on Friday, Hargrave will be hosting the VIC/BRC conference championship. This will be a true test of the boys’ skills, strength, and fortitude!
