The Tigers traveled to London, Kentucky to put their perfect record on the line against 22FT Academy of Greenville, South Carolina in the prestigious Legacy Nissan Classic. The two teams met at last year’s event and the game was a thriller, with the eventual National Champion Tigers prevailing in overtime. This time around, it wouldn’t be as close. Fueled by Brandon Knapper’s 28 points, Hargrave cruised to a 108-83 win.
Knapper led all scorers with 28 and was also named the MVP in a post-game ceremony. Braxton Beverly scored 20 in his homecoming, and Naji Marshall led the team in both rebounds (10) and assists (9) in the win. Iran Bennett (17), Justin Brown (13), and Trey Kelley (12) all reached double digits in the balanced scoring effort.
Earlier in the day, Clayton Hughes and Antwan Walker wowed the crowd at North Laurel High School in the Legacy Nissan Classic Slam Dunk Contest. Starting with a field of 9 contestants, it was an all-Hargrave final as Hughes and Walker outlasted the competition. In the end, Clayton Hughes was named the 2016 Legacy Nissan Classic Slam Dunk Contest Champion.
