Tigers Drop Heartbreaker at LCA

Despite holding a lead of eight points heading into the 4th quarter, the Tigers couldn’t hold on in Lynchburg against Liberty Christian Academy. On LCA’s senior night, the gym was packed and there was a distinct playoff atmosphere in the air. Both teams struggled to knock the rust off initially, but in the second quarter, Hargrave picked up the defensive intensity and brought a 4 point lead into the locker room.

Hargrave would come out ready from the break and pounced on the Bulldogs in the third quarter to push the lead up to 8 with just the fourth quarter to play. LCA fought back right as the 4th quarter started and it was back and forth action from there on out. In the final 3 minutes alone, there were 5 lead changes. Unfortunately for the Tigers, the Bulldogs were able to capitalize on 12 of their 14 free throw attempts in the 4th quarter to eek out a 3 point home victory. The Tigers had one final shot from half-court as time expired, but the shot rimmed out.

The story of the night offensively was the hot shooting of Tyler Chisholm, who connected on 8 of his 11 three point attempts on his way to a game-high 26 points. Jason Fields (13 points, 8 rebounds) and Keon McIntosh  (13 points, 9 rebounds) were the only other tigers in double digits. Robert Tubbs contributed 10 assists on the evening.

Hargrave will look to get back to its winning ways Thursday in their regular season finale at Holy Cross Regional in Roanoke. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30PM, weather permitting.
