Tigers Drop Heartbreaker

Benjamin J Veshi

The Hargrave Tigers took to Walter Davis Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon to face off with Catholic High School. Despite an outstanding performance, the Tigers fell 59-56 in overtime, dropping their record to 3-5 on the year.

The Tigers were in command most of the first half, as they got solid team contributions all the way around as they build a 28-21 lead at the break.

In the second half, Catholic started to take over and built out a lead until the final minutes. Luc Garcia ’22 made big shot after big shot and knocked in two clutch free throws to give the Tigers a two point advantage with seconds remaining. A Catholic buzzer beater sent the game into overtime, tied at 51.

In the overtime period, Catholic build a 6 point advantage but every time they tried to pull away, Garcia was there with a big shot to slow the Catholic run. With four seconds remaining, the Tigers needed to go the length of the floor for a three pointer and despite a clean look from Garcia, the shot hit the back of the iron and bounced out.

Hargrave is back in action on Tuesday, January 28th as they host Miller School in a VIC contest. Tip-off is scheduled for 4:30 PM.
