The Hargrave Military Academy Tigers swam their way to victory on Friday afternoon in an outstanding team performance.
Despite a winter cold that swept it’s way through the team, the Tigers were able to bring 19 swimmers to the pool which helped them expand the number of swimmers they could enter in each event.
Of the competing teams, Hargrave emerged as the victor over Covenant, Fishburne and VA Homescool. The scoring is below:

Notable Performances Included:
Andrew Bolz ’23–qualified in the 200 yard Medley Relay; 50 freestyle and the 100 backstroke, making him eligible for 5 individual events for state and 2 relays
Caleb Chester ’21–dropped 9 seconds off his 200 freestyle and 1 second off the 100 breaststroke
Gage Crisp ’21–dropped 3 seconds off his 100 butterfly. He was our only swimmer in this event and he scored us some valuable points.
Nick DeVeer ’21–dropped 5.5 seconds off his 200 IM swim, and likewise he was our only swimmer for this event.
Tristyn Gavulic ’20–joined the 500 yard club as one of only 5 swimmers who swam this event during a meet this season!
Nathan Higdon ’21–dropped 7 seconds on the 200 freestyle and setting a personal best, and qualifying for state in the 100 backstroke. This takes Nathan to 7 individual events and 2 relays for state!
Scott Kennedy ’20–had an easy 500 freestyle earlier in the season, so as he had a little more competition, he took 31 seconds off his time! Amazing.
Wesley Marquardt ’21–dropped 4 seconds off his 500 freestyle
John Mauriello ’21–with the underwater work dropped over a second on his 100 freestyle
Dave Mueller ’21–who has only competed twice this season but dropped nearly 2 seconds off his 50 freestyle.
Andrew Ponton ’22–who has also competed twice this season, just missing out on the 50 freestyle bonus and just missing out on dropping under 1 minute for the 100 freestyle.
Kayline Pruett ’22–dropped over 2 seconds on his 100 breaststroke
Ethan Teluk ’22–who is consistently dropping each meet, and dropped a further second off his 50 freestyle and nearly 2.5 seconds off his 100 breaststroke
Jay Thompson ’21–who has swam his fastest ever 50 freestyle!
The Tigers are back in action on Tuesday, January 28th as they honor their seniors in their final regular season home meet. The meet is scheduled to begin at 4:30 PM.
