The Hargrave Middle School Basketball Team won an exciting game Thursday, narrowly defeating North Cross by a score of 31-30.
The Tigers played hard the entire game, and had balanced scoring on offense. Cadets Slater Barefoot and Isaiah Guzman were the leading scorers with 9 points each; Ben Badami added 7 points, and Gabriel Correia Cabral, Ryan Phillips and Zach Szostak had 2 points each.
The lead changed hands several times in the course of the game. North Cross took an early lead, but the Tigers fought back and caught them by the half. The Tigers extended their lead in the third period, but North Cross came back strong in the 4th quarter, and took the lead 29-30 with one minute left to play. The Tigers scored on a layup by Isaiah Guzman with 23 seconds left, then played good defense to secure the win.
Hargrave’s next game will be against Westover Christian Academy in Danville on Thursday, January 26th at 5:00.
