Tigers Fall in Home Opener

The Tigers took on New Covenant Gryphons Thursday evening in their first match of the season at Simpson Parade Field.

The Gryphons opened the game with the first goal, however the Tigers were able to responsed with a goal from newcomer Chris Czarnecki who was set up by Kyle Wint in the 12th minute. With the score tied at 1-1, the Gryphons were able to capitalize on a Tigers mistake to make it 2-1. Co-captain Francisco Velasco-Lang quickly evened the score, however, with a long-range strike from 23 yards out. The Gryphons were able to get a late goal at the end of the first half to take a 3-2 lead into the half.

Beginning of the second half the Gryphons were able to get two early goals, however the Tigers didn’t give up as Samuel Gnihi Konzi Mongot, Raines Wall, and Wint had great shots on goal that tested the Gryphons’ keeper, even deflecting off the woodwork on two occasions.

The setback moves Hargrave to 0-1 on the young season. They will look to rebound against Westover Christian in their next tilt, Tuesday 9/2 at Simpson Parade Field. Kick-off is scheduled for 4:00PM.
