Tigers Fall in Nail Biter

Benjamin J Veshi

The Hargrave Tigers hit the links on Wednesday afternoon to kick off the 2021 campaign as they hosted Roanoke Catholic at Cedars Country Club. Despite some strong individual performances, the Tigers narrowly fell to the Celtics, 229-237.

The first competitive round of the year always comes with some level of nerves, which are both good and bad, as well as the need to shake the rust off after a long offseason. This group was excited to compete since they hadn’t participated in a golf match since the spring of 2019 after their 2020 season was canceled due to the pandemic. Through the ups and downs, Head Coach Richard Phillips was pleased with his group’s performance in the loss. Per Coach Phillips, “All-in-all, our young golf team is making steady progress. So stay tuned, these guys are going to make their mark on the conference!”
