Tigers Fall in VIC Match-up against Virginia Episcopal

Benjamin J Veshi

The Hargrave Tigers played on the road for the second time in five days as they faced off with Virginia Episcopal School in Lynchburg, Virginia. The Tigers fell to the Bishops by a final score of 9-3, bringing the Hargrave record to 1-11-2 on the season.

Conference games always bring a different feel to them, including a heightened level of competition. Tuesday’s match was no different as both teams came out with a great deal of nerves as they not only faced off against each other but also against less than ideal weather conditions. Both teams played extremely hard and ultimately, the Tigers had a few too many mental errors which led to their eventual 9-3 defeat.

Coach Eubank said, following the match, “Although the score does not indicate how well we played, we (Coach Roach and I) are extremely proud of how hard our guys fought, their effort, and how they played through the final whistle. We embodied the Hargrave spirit last night and showed a lot of will power and teamwork on and off the field!”

Two of the Tigers three goals came from familiar faces, Julio Galindo and Daniel Pierce, however, in defeat Hargrave had something to cheer about on Tuesday. Nathan Higdon collected his first career goal, bringing the team to their feet with a roar of celebration.

The Tigers begin a stretch of four straight games at home as they are set to face Holy Cross on Friday, October 11th. This VIC match will kick-off at 4:30 PM from Simpson Parade Field.
