Tigers Fall Late to Eastern Mennonite

The Hargrave soccer team showed significant improvement from a season ago on Wednesday, battling Eastern Mennonite School from start to finish before falling 2-1 in a hard-fought contest.

The Tigers took the lead in the first half when senior captain Henry Robertson found the back of the net off an assist from fellow senior captain Patrick Fowlkes. Hargrave carried that advantage into the second half and continued to put together a strong performance against the Flames.

Eastern Mennonite eventually leveled the match midway through the second half, setting up a tense finish. The Flames then found the go-ahead goal in stoppage time to take a 2-1 victory.

Senior goalkeeper Kai Ferrell was outstanding in net for the Tigers, making several key saves while confidently commanding his back line throughout the match. His performance helped Hargrave stay in the game and maintain its lead deep into the second half.

Despite the disappointing result, the Tigers’ performance was a strong indication of the progress the team has made since last season. Hargrave will look to build on that performance when it returns to action Thursday, September 10, against Fishburne Military Academy. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:30 p.m.
