Tigers Fall Short in Second Half

Assistant AD

The Hargrave Varsity Soccer Team traveled to Lynchburg to play the Holy Cross Gaels on Thursday, 9/13. The team played well, together, and simply. A goal in the first half, fifteen minutes in, by Will Ward propelled the team to an early lead. The Tigers held the Gaels to a 1-0 first half despite perpetual injuries and a newcomer on the back line, Jeremiah Volgares.

The second half saw much less play in the midfield and an even stronger showing by the Tigers offensively, but mistakes in organization by the Tigers’ defensive side of the ball allowed Holy Cross to score two quick goals because of one-on-one mistakes and problems organizing on the counterattack. Despite the Tigers’ strides to continue playing together, the final score did not reflect the true effort of the team and the possession of the Tigers.

Standouts this match were Mahmoud Gamil with 25 saves, Will Ward with 1 goal and gritty play up top, and Tyler Fallen with 4 shots on goal.

The Tigers will travel to Carlisle School Tuesday, September 18 for a match beginning at 4:30.
