Tigers Hold On Against North Cross

The Hargrave Military Academy JV Basketball team held on to secure a 67-61 home victory against North Cross School on Valentine’s Day. The win moved the team’s overall record to 8-7 on the season.

On a day where love was abounding throughout the world, there was certainly no love lost between these two teams in a heated rivalry game. After playing each other close last month, when the Tigers narrowly escaped with an overtime victory at North Cross, Wednesday’s game followed the same tune as both teams went back and forth all four quarters.

The Tigers were paced in the first half by Jake Terry, as he poured in 17 first half points, but North Cross made a late push in the second quarter and the score was knotted up 39-39 at halftime. In the second half, North Cross came out on fire and nailed some quick threes but the Tigers continued to persevere as Paul Hughes, Wade Thomas, and Dexter Weaver made huge hustle plays down the stretch to help Hargrave extend their lead to as many as eight points in the final frame before securing the 67-61 victory.

The Tigers finish out the regular season on Friday, February 16th as they host Virginia Episcopal School in a VIC Conference game. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM in Walter Davis Gymnasium.
