Tigers Pick Up Pair of Home Wins over Weekend

The Hargrave Tigers picked up a pair of impressive wins inside Walter Davis Gymnasium over the weekend, defeating The Skills Factory and Springfield Commonwealth Academy.

After dropping slightly in the polls, the #2 nationally ranked Tigers had two big opportunities to defend their home court in the annual Hargrave Military Circuit. On Saturday afternoon, Hargrave defeated The Skills Factory (Georgia), 107-93, despite falling behind early. “We really turned the tide midway through the first half,” said Head Coach, Lee Martin. “AJ’s (James) dunk off the turnover really ignited our run!”

Once the Tigers took the lead on Saturday, there was no looking back as they increased the lead to as many as 25 points led by K.D. Johnson, Corey Walker, AJ James, and Bryson Childress.

On Sunday, the Tigers took on Springfield Commonwealth Academy out of Massachusetts in a game that quickly turned into a track meet between two high-powered offenses. After a back and forth twenty minutes, the Tigers really made their run after a rim-rocking finish by Gabe Wiznitzer off K.D. Johnson’s feed. “Gabe’s dunk brought the entire gym to their feet,” remarked Martin. “It really gave us a lot of energy to push forward with our run in the first half.”

Despite squandering a second half lead, the Tigers never fully relinquished the lead as they held on for the 116-106 victory in the most exciting game of the weekend.

Hargrave is back in action on Tuesday night, February 4th, as they take on KEBA Prep inside Walter Davis Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
