The Hargrave Varsity Baseball team took to the field this past Saturday to take on Woodberry Forest in Lynchburg, Virginia. Woodberry beat the Tigers by a score of 11-7. Hargrave had the lead the entire game going into the top of the seventh inning when a few miscues and a few timely hits from Woodberry saw Hargrave’s lead dwindle and Woodberry leading. The Tigers battled until the last out pushing two runs across in the bottom of the seventh before the game ended.
Hargrave scored three runs in the second, one run in the fourth, one run in the fifth and two runs in the seventh. Cadet Matt Harris was the starting pitcher and pitchers threw 6 1/3 innings giving up 7 hits, striking out 4, and giving up 9 runs with only 5 of them being earned. Harris also hit his first ever home run deep over the left field wall. Cadets Harris, Spence Walker, Ryan Castellano, Braden Barnett and Mack Long all contributed with a pair of hits in the contest.
