Tigers Roll in Rudy Lane Classic

In the 3rd Annual Rudy Lane Classic, Hargrave Military Academy used an outstanding defensive and rebounding effort to roll to a 105-70 victory over Carlisle School. The Tigers are now 13-3 on the season.

In a rematch from January 5th, a game that Hargrave won 81-73 at Carlisle, both teams were fired up and ready to play. There was a great atmosphere in Walter Davis Gymnasium and the Tigers were well prepared. After a slow start, Hargrave’s second unit, comprised of 5 seniors (David Garey, Kameron Ivory, Malik Morgan, Nathan Hawkins, and Jon Hutto) stormed out to an 8-0 run, giving Hargrave a 14-8 lead in the first quarter, a lead they would not relinquish for the remainder of the contest. Hargrave led 25-13 after the first quarter, and pushed their advantage to as many as 21 in the first half before the went to the locker room in command of the game, leading 45-30.

A flurry of blocks, steals, deflections, and dunks from the Tigers kept the momentum in their favor and kept the home crowd, as well as the home team, totally energized for the entire second half. Hargrave put up 60 points in the second half and held the Chiefs of Carlisle to 40 points. For the game, Hargrave compiled 56 deflections, forced 46 Carlisle turnovers, and snagged 41 rebounds, 24 of them being offensive rebounds, which ultimately led them to victory.

Hargrave is back in action as they hit the road on Monday, January 30th, and head to Fishburne Military School for a VIC conference match-up. Tip-off is scheduled for 6:00 PM.
