Tigers Run Though Cross-Town Rivals

Located just minutes away from each other in Chatham, Hargrave Military Academy and Chatham High School took the court for their first of two tilts this season on Monday. In the first round, the Tigers easily dispatched their rivals to the south by a score of 72-50.

Hargrave jumped out to an early lead in the first quarter and never relinquished the lead for the rest of the contest. The game was highlighted by the above-the-rim athleticism of Jason Fields, who was too much for Chatham to handle all night long. Fields put together a eye-popping stat line registering 29 points on 11-13 shooting with two threes, seven rebounds, six blocks and two steals on the evening.

Fellow senior Keon McIntosh logged his fourth double-double on the season, scoring 11 points and pulling down a whopping 17 rebounds. Fred Ponder was the only other Tiger to reach double digits, chipping in with 15 points (2-3 on 3-pointers) in the contest.

Hargrave will be back in action to take on conference rival North Cross tomorrow at home in the Walter Davis Gymnasium. Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30PM.
