Tigers Snag Victory in Tri-Match!

Benjamin J Veshi

The Hargrave Tigers traveled to Harrisonburg, Virginia on Thursday afternoon to compete in a tri-match with host, Eastern Mennonite School, and Randolph-Macon Academy. The Tigers had their best outing of the young season and earned a victory over Randolph-Macon Academy but fell to a red hot Eastern Mennonite team.

Despite the long travel for the Tigers, the opportunity to play at beautiful Heritage Oaks was enough to energize these young men and they came out of the gates on fire! After a week off for Spring Break, Hargrave quickly shook the rust off and put together a number of strong individual performances en route to a team best score this season. Hargrave’s previous low this season was 229 but they posted a score of 204 on Thursday afternoon!

The Tigers’ performance put them squarely in the middle of Eastern Mennonite (146; which was a school record for Eastern Mennonite) and Randolph-Macon Academy (213). “I’m extremely proud of these young men,” remarked Head Coach, Richard Phillips. “The hard work is starting to pay off for these guys and I think we’re starting to turn the corner (as individuals and as a team). To improve by over 6 strokes per player between matches is an awesome sign for this group!”

Hargrave was led by Carter Brinson ’22 (Charlotte, NC) while Joseph Assen ’23 (Marysville, OH), Sage Wood ’24 (Earlysville, VA), and Davis Talley ’22 (Clayton, NC) posted strong individual rounds for the Tigers, including a personal best for Assen and Talley!
