Tigers Split Against Top 10 Opponents at NPS

Hargrave traveled to New Haven, CT to take part in the storied National Prep Showcase on November 17th and 18th. The Tigers played games on back-to-back days against two preseason top 10 teams, heading home with a 1-1 record. Recaps for the games are below:

Hargrave 86, Woodstock Academy 91

Hargrave took on Woodstock in the only game of the weekend that featured two teams ranked in the top 6 squaring off. The Tigers and Centaurs battled back and forth for the duration of the contest, evidenced by the 13 lead changes that took place throughout the game, but Woodstock was able to make countless free-throws down the stretch to prevail victorious. Hargrave was led by a quartet of big scorers: Jules Moor (24 points, 5 rebounds), Trey McGowens (19 points,3 3-pointers), Tavin Lovan (18 points, 6 rebounds) and Connor Crabtree (17 points, 3 steals, 2 3-pointers).

Hargrave 85, St. Thomas More 63

This matchup was the first meeting between Hargrave and St. Thomas More since the 2016 National Championship game, a game in which the Tigers took home their third national championship. Hargrave jumped out to an early lead that continued to balloon over the course of the game, with the Tigers holding a lead of 35 points midway through the second period. Hargrave utilized a balanced scoring attack that saw 11 players score, led by Tre McGowens (19 points), Connor Crabtree (15 points, 3 3-pointers), Rob Peterson (11 points) and Tavin Lovan (10 points, 2 steals).

For his consistent effort over both games, Trey McGowens was named to the National Prep Showcase All-Tournament team by Rivals and was an honorable mention all-tournament selection by Prep Circuit.

Hargrave will be back in action on Thursday November 30th as they travel to Salisbury, NC to take on Head Coach Lee Martin’s alma mater, Catawba College. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:00pm.
