The Hargrave Postgraduate Basketball team kicked off their 2017-18 regular season this weekend with a pair of home games in Walter Davis Gymnasium. The Tigers emerged victorious in both games to push their home winning streak to 77 games, and are the first two wins for Lee Martin as Head Coach. Please find the game recaps below:
Hargrave 107, Patrick Henry 81
Hargrave opened the season in front of a raucus crowd in Walter Davis Gymnasium, taking on Patrick Henry CC from Martinsville, VA. The Tigers held the lead for the duration of the game, and were able to push ahead down the stretch to cruise home with a 26 point win. Hargrave was led by Tavin Lovan who filled the stat sheet with 27 points, 12 rebounds and 5 steals. Connor Crabtree poured in 26 points of his own, including 5 three-pointers. Collin Blanchard scored all 15 of his points in the second half to help push the Tiger lead out, while Jules Moor (14 points, 3 steals) and DJ Myers (13 points, 3 steals, 5 rebounds) rounded out the double-digit scorers for Hargrave.
Hargrave 115, Mt. Zion Christian 45
Hargrave pounced on the visiting Mt. Zion Warriors from the tip, racing out to a 20-4 lead in the opening minutes of the contest and never looking back. The Tiger lead would get as high as 76 points late in the second half, with the final margin of victory settling in at 70 points. Connor Crabtree continued his hot start, pacing the Tigers with 25 points, including 4 three-pointers. James Dunlop had a huge game for the tigers in the win, pouring in 20 points, blocking three shots and pulling down 8 rebounds. Jules Moor pitched in 15 of his own with Trey McGowens (14 points, 4 steals, 5 assists), Jon Mebane (10 points, 3 3-pointers) and Christian Lorng (10 points, 11 rebounds) all hitting double-figures as well.
Hargrave will be back in action Halloween night, taking on SG Academy. The tip-off is scheduled for 7:30pm in Walter Davis Gymnasium.
