Tigers win big against MMA

Coach Oditt

The Varsity Lacrosse team continued VISAA Division play with a road trip to Woodstock, Va to take on the Colonels of Massanutten Military Academy. It was a bit of a slow start for the Tigers as the teams drew even for the first several minutes of play. Hargrave struck first and never looked back as they received multiple goals from Garret Peterson, Chris Brunetti and Mikey Sullivan to take a 5-1 advantage at the end of the first quarter of play. The second quarter would only see the Tigers scoring once as Justin Malinow and Garret Peterson connected for a goal. With a 6-2 lead at halftime the tigers were gearing up to play their best lacrosse of the day. An early strike by Chris Brunetti that was generated down in the defensive end by Russell Ferguson who would receive credit for the assist visibly shook the Colonels of Massanutten. By the close of the third quarter the Tigers would collect a total of 5 more goals. As the fourth quarter progressed Hargrave would continue their dominance of the ball possession game as Justin Malinow and Garrett Peterson snatched up ground ball after ground ball recording 17 on the day between the two midfielders.

Notable performances were had by many players. Yvan Medard recorded 2 assist and won several endline possessions with his great effort behind the net. Midfielders Justin Malinow and Luke Dewitt had strong showings as their heads up play through the midfield helped the Tigers control the neutral zone throughout the game. Defender Russell Ferguson recorded 1 goal, 2 assist and 8 ground ball recoveries by games end and goaltender Adrian Roman recorded 8 saves on 10 shots. With this win the Tigers sit at 3-2 overall and will play host to State power Blue ridge School on Tuesday April 1st at 4:30.
