Tigers Win in Double OT

Jeremy Eubank

The Tigers took the field in non-conference action on Friday, October 13th at the Simpson Parade Field against Southwest Virginia Home School. In what was end to end action, the Tigers were able to win in the closing seconds of double overtime 3-2.

Opening the scoring for the Tigers was junior left forward Chad Demarest (Naples, Florida) in the 23rd minute unassisted for the early 1-0 lead. Then in the 38th minute the Tigers scored again. Demarest found the back of the net off an assist from junior midfielder Gabriel Powers (Roswell, GA) as the Tigers took a 2-1 lead at the midway point.

“We started the game very well across the board,” stated Head Coach Jeremy Eubank. “Our focus was there from the start and was sustained throughout, which was good to see us finish these close games.”

In the second half, the Tigers battled with the Southwest and eventually led to overtime at the end of regulation. With 15 seconds left in the match, Demarest was able to cut into the box and find junior center forward Paul Hughes (Danville, VA) to score the game winner. “It was great play by Chad to cut in and get his head up and look for his teammates,” stated Eubank about the last goal. “We work on finishing a lot in practice and it was good to see that it paid off today.”

The Tigers will return to Simpson Parade Field on Tuesday, October 17 as they host Covenant School out of Charlottesville in VIC action. Game time is set to start at 4:30.
