Tigers Withstand Celtics Long-Distance Attack

Hargrave was able to withstand the hot shooting of Roanoke Catholic to secure a 63-51 victory on the road. Hargrave took a lead in the second quarter that they would not relinquish, but the Celtics kept things close by knocking down a number of difficult long range tries. In a tightly contested game throughout, it was the Tiger defense that turned up the heat and allowed Hargrave to pull away.  The Tigers secured 19 steals in the game, with many of those leading to easy baskets on the other end. The tremendous effort of the Tigers on the evening was also evident in the rebounding totals, where as a team Hargrave pulled down 16 offensive rebounds.

Making his season debut, Fred Ponder was Hargrave’s top scorer on the evening with 19 points, joined by Tyler Chisholm (16; 3 3-pointers) and Keon McIntosh (15) as double digit scorers. McIntosh filled his stat line with 10 rebounds and five steals, his third consecutive double-double on the young season. Ben Dorfman was a stalwart defensively all night for the Tigers, as he registered five steals and altered countless other posessions.

The Tigers will be back in action on Tuesday to face local rival Dan River in a battle of unbeaten teams. The game will tip off at 7:30PM in the Walter Davis Gymnasium.
