Track Finishes with Undefeated Regular Season

Jeremy Eubank

The Tigers traveled to nearby Chatham High School to compete in their last regular season meet last Thursday against five other local schools (Chatham, Galileo, Gretna, and Altavista, and Dan River). Against all the odds these guys stepped up, battled, and came out victorious against the local schools and winning the meet by the final score of:

Hargrave – 179

Gretna – 127

Galileo – 78

Dan River – 75

Altavista – 61

Chatham – 56

“I am very proud of how our guys have competed all year,” stated Head Coach Jeremy Eubank. “Our results are a true testament to how much they are willing to sacrifice for the good of the team. It is good to see that the things we talk about in practice have become habitual for them and they are performing at a top level.”

We closed out our regular season with a perfect record of 4-0 overall and scoring over 170 points in each meet! To average over 170 points is unheard of in track and a result of their hard work. This is a very big accomplishment for our guys as it sets them up for the VIC Conference Championships on Saturday, May 12 at VES. Top performers of the meet were:

Elyas Harris – 2nd in Triple Jump; 1st in Long Jump

Reggie McKinney – 3rd in Triple Jump; 3rd in Long Jump; 1st in High Jump

Mark Billups – 2nd in Long Jump

Thaddeus Alexis – 2nd in High Jump

Shiff Helvey -2nd in 3200 Meters

Tyler Morris – 3rd in the 3200 Meters

“To go undefeated for the regular season and to average over 170 points as a team score as a four year program is a grand achievement,” stated Eubank. “It typically takes at least 6-8 years to establish a program at this level, and to be here in our fourth year is a huge accomplishment for us.”
