Track Opens season at Riverheads High School

The Hargrave Varsity Track & Field team competed at Riverheads High School to open their season.  Right off the bat, we knew our team was better this year than before, thanks to Cadet Elyas Harris and Cadet Layton Decker placing 1st and 3rd in the Triple Jump!  Shortly afterwards, our 4×800 relay team secured our second win in a close race against Riverheads, followed by strong performances in the 110 high hurdles by Brian Williams, and Brantley Fowler and 100 meter dash by Richard Jiang and Brian Williams.  Stellar performances in the 400, 800, 300 hurdles, 1600, and the 200 meters added greatly to our overall score, as we placed 2nd or 3rd in each of those events.  Our 4×100 relay team dominated the competition from start to finish, winning with easily a 30 meter lead!  In our last event, the 4×400 relay, our boys established a firm lead early on, but lost it by the third runner.  Our anchor runner, Layton Decker pulled off an amazing feat and made up a massive gap to beat the leader in the final turn!
Hargrave placed 2nd overall at the meet.  Our next meet will be on April 7th at Altavista High School.
