The Burger King New Year’s Invitational favored several athletes on the Hargrave Aquatics swimming team. 15 members of the team managed to attend the January 4-5, 2004 meet at Virginia Tech’s War Memorial Pool in Blacksburg, Virginia. They also managed to top eight finishes in numerous events. Almost all athletes placed top eight at least once. Four athletes, Jessica Abbott, Jesse Conner, Jason Reese and Joseph Campbell, placed top three in all of their events.
After taking time off for the Christmas holidays, it was very surprising to watch the team swim exceed expectations. We managed a week and a half of practice before going into the meet. The team’s expectations remained focused on their racing, which helped overall performance. The team is very motivated going into the 2004 winter championship season, which will end for most by April.
