USA Swimming vs. CYAC Spring Splash

Hargrave Aquatics concluded its 2004/2005 short course (25 yard length) season with several exciting performances at the CYAC Spring Splash, April 2, 2005. The swimming meet, hosted at Charlottesville’s Crow Pool, was a non-championship meet designed to bridge the gap between short course and long course (50 meter length) seasons.

“While it wasn’t a championship meet, it certainly masquerades as one,” said Coach William Wiebking, Hargrave Aquatics’ Age Group coach. “It is one of the few meets that we attend that provide trophies for first place finishes, instead of ribbons or medals. This made the team very motivated to earn trophies. It became a team goal.”

Trophies were provided for first place finishes in single age groups from age nine through age 14. Awards were also offered in 8&Under and 15&Over categories. 18 Hargrave Aquatics athletes attended the meet.

Additionally, High Point awards were also offered in the same age categories. To earn a high point award, an athlete needed to finish the meet with the most points. Points are determined by overall placement in each event an athlete swims. First place nets an athlete seven points. Second place is worth five points; third is four points; forth is three points; fifth is two points; and sixth is one point.

Five Hargrave Aquatics athletes earned High Point trophies during the course of the meet.

Jason Reese, age 11 of Gretna, earned the most points overall of any Hargrave swimmer with 25, which also netted the High Point trophy for 11 year old boys. He took first place in three events, the 50y Backstroke, 35.82, the 50y Butterfly, 33.00, and the 100y IM, 1:17.06. He had commanding leads in each of these events, while also earning a third place in the 50y Breaststroke, 45.09.
