USA Swimming vs. PACK Invitational A/BB/B/C Meet

Hargrave took 5th in the meet overall, only 14 points out of 3rd.

For mid-season racing, the Hargrave Aquatics USA Swimming team presented a tour de force at the 2006 Southeast Pilot January Classic, held January 13-15, 2006. The team was represented at all ages and ability levels, swimming a combined total of 38 athletes. The team met with success at all levels, too.

The University of Tennessee in Knoxville hosted the event at The Student Aquatic Center. The Center is the training home to a large number of Olympians and NCAA Champions, a fun setting for the Classic.

Hargrave Military Academy Cadets, Chatham Hall students and local swimmers represent Hargrave Aquatics senior athletes. The seniors are approximately age 13 and older. The seniors turned in several truly outstanding performances during the course of the meet, featuring ten athletes scoring in the top eight for specific events.

Two of the more successful athletes for the Hargrave Aquatics senior swimmers were Hargrave Cadet Jacob Dole of Corbin (KY) and Forest, Virginia, resident Lauren Hines.

Dole, age 14, took first place in the 50y Freestyle with a time of 23.25. This win was his last individual swim and helped cap off a successful weekend for the team. Dole also earned a second place in the 100y Backstroke, 58.28; three third place finishes in the 400y IM, 4:37.93, 200y IM, 2:10.21, and 100y Freestyle, 51.24; and two forth place finishes in the 200y Backstroke, 2:10.34, and 200y Freestyle, 1:54.58.

Hines, age 15, won the 100y Freestyle in a short 54.10. Hines was also second in the 50y Freestyle, 24.99, fifth in the 100y Backstroke, 1:01.65, and sixth in both the 200y Backstroke, 2:12.87, and 200y Freestyle, 2:00.60.

The 12 and Under members of the Hargrave Aquatics team witnessed three athletes placing top eight. Of them, Andy Smith, age 8, of Chatham managed to win the Boy’s 8&Under 50y Freestyle with a time of 36.13. He was also second in the 50y Backstroke, 41.47, sixth in the 100y IM, 1:40.15, and seventh in both the 100y Freestyle, 1:28.33, and 50y Breaststroke, 56.10.

As the National Governing Body for competitive swimming in the United States, USA Swimming formulates the rules, implements policies and procedures, conducts national championships, disseminates safety and sports medicine information and selects athletes to represent the United States in international competition.
