Valiant Effort Comes Up Short for Tigers

Ben Veshi

In a game that pitted two of the top teams in VISAA Division 2, Hargrave Military Academy suffered their second defeat of the season, 51-43 to Blue Ridge School. The Tigers are now 8-2 on the season.

Both teams played some great defense in the first half and there was a lid on the Hargrave rim early on, as they trailed 10-1 early in the first quarter. Blue Ridge maintained and increased their lead in the first half to 29-14 at the break.

Hargrave, willed by the Hargrave 6th Man, clawed their way back into the game in the third quarter and early into the fourth quarter, as they cut the score to 38-32. Unfortunately, the Tigers couldn’t break over that six point deficit and eventually fell to the Barons by eight.

Notable Performances Include:
DJ Myers ’18–13 points, 3 rebounds, 2 steals
David Garey ’17–11 points, 1 rebound, 6 deflections
Tre King ’18–8 points, 11 rebounds, 8 deflections
Grayson Tejeda ’17–5 points, 2 steals, 5 deflections
John Kirkpatrick ’18–6 points, 1 rebound

Hargrave will be on the road again as they travel to Georgetown, Kentucky for the 22nd Annual Toyota Classic, January 19th-21st. They open up with Larue County on Thursday, January 19. Tip-off scheduled for 6:00 PM.
