Varsity Baseball defeats Roanoke Catholic 7 to 5 on the road

Coach Oditt
Your Hargrave Varsity Baseball team improved its record to 4-2 Wednesday afternoon by defeating Roanoke Catholic by a score of 7-5. Hargrave got the bats going early jumping on the Celtics with three runs in the first and adding another in the second with hits from Ryan Castellano, Spence Walker with a double, Joe Long with a single, and Braden Barnett with a double. The third and fourth innings Hargrave could not find the scoreboard hitting sharp shots right to the Roanoke Catholic defenders. In the sixth inning Walker connected with his first home run of the season sending a shot over the scoreboard in left center field, driving in two runs with the long ball. Hargrave battled through out the game, hitting the ball hard all game just directly at the Celtic defense. Hargrave stuck to the game plan and prevailed against a scrappy Roanoke Catholic ball club.

Hargrave got multiple hits from Player Of The Game Spence Walker 2-3 with a double and homer, driving in three runs, and Ryan Castellano 2-3 with an RBI and two stolen bases. Braden Barnett, Mattox lawson, Joe Long, Zach Ruffin and Sadat Slade, all contributed with hits.

Nick Paul pitched six strong innings holding the Celtics in check, facing 28 batters, giving up four hits, three runs, three earned runs while striking out nine Roanoke Catholic batters. Barnett came in the seventh to close the door striking out two of the five batters he faced.
