Varsity Baseball Starts season with a 21-0 victory over Oak Ridge

Coach Oditt

The Hargrave Varsity baseball team finally kicked the season off… and did it with a bang. Hargrave beat Oak Ridge Military Academy 21-0 Thursday afternoon on the road.

Seniors Spence Walker and Ryan Castellano started their senior campaign off as expected, setting the tone of the game right out the gates. Walker, who was named player of the game was the starting pitcher on the day, throwing a complete game two hit shut out, while striking out ten batters and only walking one. At the plate Walker got two hits, both doubles and driving in four runs. Castellano also had a big day at the plate getting three hits in four plate appearances, stealing two bases and driving in a game high five RBI’s. Matthew Harris and Mattox Lawson each had two hits in the contest, stole two bases and drove in two runs, and Nick Paul had three hits in four plate appearances and drove in two runs.

Harris got things started in the top of the first inning on the second pitch of the game driving a ball to deep center field then stealing his first base of the season. Castellano followed with a sharp single through the right side to set the tone of the game. Hargrave scored three runs in the top of the first, and kept it going from there on out, scoring eight runs in the third and running Oak Ridges starting pitcher out of the game. The Tigers picked up another two runs in the fourth inning and another big eight running inning in the fifth sealed the deal for the first of many big wins this season for your Tigers.
