Varsity Baseball State Playoffs

Brett Thomas

The Varsity baseball team reached the state playoffs for the third time in five years as the number 9 seed.

Hargrave took on Portsmouth Christian in the first round, defeating them 4-3 behind a Mark Loving 2-run homerun and a 2 RBI single by Logan Barker. Hargrave got 6 strong innings from sophomore Cody Laviolette, before Riggs Jordan sealed the deal with his 6th save of the year.

Hargrave traveled to number 1 seed Miller a day after beating Portsmouth and suffered an 11-0 loss ending the season and state title chances.

The season was a success in many different ways. The guys battled, played out of position, played through adversity, dealt with the bad spring weather ,and improved each and every game.
