Hargrave opened the Virginia Independent Conference season by hosting the North Cross Raiders. Last year’s first and second place teams battled through four quarters in a hotly contested game. The Raiders came out of the blocks strong, out scoring Hargrave 18-14 in the first quarter. Defensively, the Tigers clamped down in the second quarter and limited North Cross to eight points en route to taking a 32-26 half time lead. A strong inside-out game helped the Raiders tie the game in the third and then take a two point lead into the final period. For the second straight game, Hargrave was unable to convert on opportunities down the stretch and the Raiders sealed the game from the freethrow line to win 67-61.
Hargrave was led by Adom Robinson with 19 points. Lyndon Massenburg also chipped in 14 in the losing effort.
