Varsity Basketball Loses Heartbreaker

Staff

Hargrave hit the road Wednesday night for a non-conference matchup against the Tunstall Trojans. In a game defined by defense, the Tigers held the Trojans to eight first quarter points and took a two point lead in to the second frame.

Both teams battled back and forth in the second quarter and the Trojans cut the lead to 23-22 going into halftime. The Tigers struggled to score from the floor and the freethrow line in the third quarter as Tunstall built a six point lead going into the final period.

An exciting fourth quarter saw miscues on both sides and a frentic comeback by Hargrave. The Tigers tied the game at 50 with one minute left on the clock. A defensive stop allowed Hargrave a chance to win the game, but Tunstall was able to cause a turnover with 30 seconds left. This turnover was converted into a foul shot that became the difference in the game as the Trojans prevailed 51-50.

The Tigers were led by Cadet Lyndon Massenburg with 14 points and Cadet Keon MacIntosh continued his solid play with 11 points and eight rebounds.
