The Tigers improved to 6 – 0 on the season and 2 – 0 in VIC play with a victory over the Bulldogs of Liberty Christian Academy. Getting off to a slow start, Hargrave fell into a 10-2 hole in the first five minutes of the contest. Solid defense and offensive execution in the second quarter brought the Tigers back and Hargrave left the floor at the end of the first half with a 21-20 lead.
The third quarter was all Hargrave as the Tigers outscored the Bulldogs 21 to 10. Hot shooting by Mike Rodriquez spurred this run as he was able to connect twice from behind the three point arc. The Bulldogs would not go away, chipping into the lead over the course of the fourth quarter. With 40 seconds left the Bulldogs held the ball for the last shot in a tied game, 48-48, that bounced off the side of the rim. The overtime period was clinched by the Tigers as Brian Sigmon made a 10 foot jump shot to take the lead and Adrien Lucienne downed two clutch free throws to push the lead to four. The final score was 57 – 53.
Hargrave was lead by Adrien Lucienne with 23 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. Mike Rodriquez contributed with 12 points and Brian Sigmon chipped in 10 points and 5 rebounds. Hargrave returns to action January 9, 2008 in a rematch with Chatham High School. Tip is set for 7:30.
