In their toughest test of the year in the opening round of the Dale Travis Invitational Tournament at Trinity Episcopal School, Hargrave remained unblemished on the season with a 74-68 win over D1 powerhouse, Benedictine.
Benedictine came out to a hot shooting start and took a 23-18 lead into the second quarter. But then DJ Myers came alive with back to back big threes that turned the momentum to the Tigers, and Hargrave took a 36-31 lead into halftime.
In the second half, Benedictine slowed the pace but Hargrave answered with timely baskets and extended the lead to 50-42 heading into the final period.
The final 8 minutes was fast paced and action packed as Benedictine was able to cut the Hargrave lead to just two points on multiple occasions in the final minutes. However, Hargrave went 13-15 from the free throw line down the stretch to seal the victory. The Tigers held Benedictine to 38.7% shooting for the game.
Hargrave will play for the Dale Travis Invitational Tournament Championship at 7:30 PM tomorrow evening at Trinity Episcopal School in Richmond, Virginia against either Trinity Episcopal/Walsingham Academy.
