Varsity Lacrosse Defeats RMA

Matt Brawn

A day after opening their season to Roanoke Catholic, the Tigers traveled to Front Royal, Virginia in a military school match-up against the Yellow Jackets of Randolph-Macon Academy.

This match-up would see the Tigers take an early first half lead of 4-0 into the locker room, as the team offense was on full display with goal contributed by four different players.

The third quarter saw RMA get on the board with a couple of back to back goals, however the Tigers netted a pair of goals of their own. Much of the third was played in this fashion as both squads traded points. By the end of the third quarter the score was HMA 7 and RMA 6. In what has been their strongest and most reliable asset, the Tiger’s ability to finish once again made an appearance. The Tigers found the net three more times in the fourth and held the Yellow Jackets to only two scoring tallies in final quarter of play finishing with a 10-8 victory. Along with great offensive play, the defensive unit for Hargrave stood tall, held the perimeter and established their physical presence.

Offensive standouts for the Hargrave Tigers were Cadets Steele Burkett, Griffin Jennings, Michael Sullivan, Rhys Emlet and Walker Thompson.

Solid Face-off performances from Cadets Michael Sullivan and Stephen Chain were one of the keys to victory.

Defensive Standouts for the Tigers were Cadets Colby Hunt, Irvin Huggins and Ryan Brown.

In his second lacrosse start ever, Goalie Adrian Roman recorded 14 saves for the day.

The Tigers head in to Spring Break at 1-1 and will look to continue their winning ways as they will travel to Fishburne Military School on 3/29 for a 4:30 p.m. contest.
