Varsity Lacrosse vs. Blue Ridge School

Hargrave 10 – Blue Ridge 18

The Tigers varsity Lacrosse Team traveled to Blue Ridge Friday afternoon to take on the Barons.

With Starting Goalie Stefan Taylor out of action due to medical reasons, backup goalie Reilly Embrey received the nod to defend the pipes. With this being only his second start in net as a first year goalie he did more than could have been asked of him as he recorded 18 saves on the day and even tallied an assist on a late 3rd quarter goal.

The game was very evenly matched for most of the fist quarter of play. The Barons would strike first due to a turn over in the defensive end by Hargrave. Hargrave’s midfield play was at one of its strongest points in the game as they were able to make defense to offense transitions with little difficulty. Hargrave’s first goal would be scored by senior attacker J.C. Shelton on an unassisted goal.

The Baron’s of Blue Ridge would find 3 quick goals in the second quarter giving them a 4-1 edge.

Oliver Mertins would net his first goal of the game midway through the first half on a feeding pass from J.C. Shelton cutting the Baron’s lead down to just two goals. The Barons would push four more goals to the backside of Hargrave’s net to make the halftime score 8-2.

Michael Princivil would find the back of the cage on a solo effort in the midfield to open the third quarter of play. Reeves Hollar would find the twine on a pass from Maxx Baldino tacking on back to back goals for the tigers. With the Score 8-4 the Barons would tally one more goal before Hargrave’s Oliver Mertins would find the back of the net for the second time in the game. Princivil would strike again midway through the 3rd quarter of play with a pass from Baldino to close the gap between the two teams to 9-6. Blue Ridge would add one more goal in the 3rd as the tigers would finish the quarter with two goals from Maxx Baldino.

The fourth Quarter saw the Tiger’s breakdown on field discipline as they took 8 penalties in the fourth quarter. Maxx Baldino would score again on a crossing pass from JC Shelton in an effort to get the tigers back in the game. Blue Ridge would take advantage of all 8 man-up opportunities by scoring on each to bring their final Tally to 18 on the day. Michael Princivil would find his third goal of the game late in the fourth as the Tigers where back to even strength.

The Tigers play host to Fork Union Military Academy on Thursday at 4:00 in VISAA play.
