Varsity Lacrosse wins against rival Liberty Christian Academy

Matt Brawn

Varsity Lacrosse traveled to Liberty Christian yesterday afternoon to engage in what has become a rather quickly developing rivalry between the two programs. The Tigers were out for a little bit of payback after dropping the final meeting between the two teams last season.

The Bulldogs struck first, catching the Tigers off-guard due to a poor transition through the midfield, giving the Bulldogs their first of only two leads in the game. A quick response from the Tigers was lead by sophomore Connor Rogers as he netted back-to-back goals with the aid of Antonio Palou-Garcia on the second quick strike. The game’s score would be a battle back and forth, leading with only one goal throughout most of the first half. The game ended with both team finding the back of the net 4 times. The Tigers came out roaring in the 3rd period of play as junior Captain Luke Dewitt hit back-to-back goals to give the edge to the Tigers. LCA would make a strong push late in the 3rd to to take their lead back 8-6. In the closing minutes of the quarter, attacker Charles Lee found the back of the net closing the gap 8-7. Unsatisfied with their brief lapse in play, the Tigers again came out controlling the play. They shut down the clearing ability of the Bulldogs with tight man-to-man coverage. Hargrave again found the Bulldog net on a solo effort by senior Chandler O’Connor.

With the game now tied, the Tigers looked to their midfield to close out the game. Offensive standout Connor Rogers charged late in the game adding 5 more goals to his tally for the afternoon. Chandler O’Connor, Mithcell Glover and Antonio Palou-Garcia added assists late and helped cruise the Tigers to a much needed and fulfilling victory as the boys played together and continued to model heart and hustle. The final score was Hargrave 13- 8 LCA.

The Tiger’s will be back in action at home on Thursday, April 28th at 4:30 against New Covenant School. We will be recognizing the senior members of the Lacrosse program during the pre-game activities. Please come out and show your support!
