The Varsity Lacrosse Team traveled to the Covenant School Friday afternoon to take on the Eagles in a VIC Conference showdown. The game was a playoff atmosphere as the showdown would send the winner to the quarterfinals of the VIC Tournament and end the season for the other.
It was nothing short of a display of fire power as both the Tigers and the Eagles combined for 43 goals on the day. The Tigers stuck first and quick earning the game’s first goal in under the first two minutes of the game. The Tigers would extend and hold the lead by the end of the first quarter to 5-3 and never look back.
The Eagles of Covenant would make several strong scoring runs in an attempt to put the Tigers on the defense, but the thunderous sticks of the Tigers would not and could not be silenced Friday evening as the Tigers routinely answered Covenant’s attack push with multiple goals of their own.
At halftime the Tigers found themselves with a 7 goal lead. The Eagles would come out in the third quarter with another strong attack push and get within three of the Tigers. With their lead being threatened, the Tigers struck back and pushed the lead back to six goals. At the close of the third quarter of play the Tigers still held the advantage of over the Eagles.
The final stanza of play saw Covenant make a final hard push and capitalize a couple of man-up situations to try and steal the game back from the Tigers. However, the Tigers who had held the lead all game long would not be denied the victory as they would continue to rifle shots past the Covenant defense to secure a 24-19 win. Every man on the roster helped secure the victory, but game standouts were Connor Rogers, Nathan Weber, Nick Duran, Nicholas Thompson, Luke Dewitt, and Caleb Rogers. The Tigers won 24-19 over the Eagles.
With this victory, the Tigers secured a spot in the VIC Quarterfinals and a regular season record of 12-4. The quarterfinal game will be played at Blue Ridge against the Barons of Blue Ridge at 5:00pm.
