On January 28, 2014, team captains for Hargrave’s varsity rifle team presented a banner to the Corps of Cadets. The banner marked the special twin undefeated seasons and twin league championship wins that occurred during the 2012-2013 academic year.
The 2012-2013 Season saw the return of Massanutten Military School to the Virginia Military School Rifle League. Normally, rifle is a fall sport. Due to logistic issues at Massanutten, they have not been able to participate in the league for several years. Massanutten was able to participate if rifle was a winter sport. To immediately accommodate Massanutten, league members added a second season to the 2012-2013 Academic year. Rifle will be a winter event going forward.
The rare dual season was an opportunity that the Hargrave varsity rifle team capitalized on, and maintained an undefeated Fall and Winter shooting season. The team also claimed both league championships. It was an exceptional effort for an exceptional year for the Tigers.
