Varsity Rifle Team vs. Fork Union Military Academy

The Tiger Rifles were “smokin” on the firing line. They fired their highest match score of the season. For their “building year”, the team finished the regular season with a 994.7 match average. With the exception of one senior, all of our shooters are expected to return next season.

During this last match, many individual accomplishments were achieved. Forrester fired the high score for the match (265). He finished the season with the highest match average (266.7) and is a strong contender for the highest average of the league. Forrester also fired the high match prone score (96) and the high match kneeling score (90). Largen (team captain) fired a steady match and finished his senior year with a 256.8 match average. Largen also has the highest standing score of the season (90). His rifle will be missed next season. Kneppler, a second year shooter, will finish the season with a 219.2 match average. He has increased his average by 12.6 points since his first year. All of the first year shooters have shown remarkable improvement. Backman fired a 260 at this match, his personal best of the season. Backman will finish the season with a 238 average. Parker fired above 250 for the second time in his first season. His match score (255) was his personal best of the season. His scoring profile makes him the “most improved” shooter of the 2007 season. Parker also fired the high standing score for HMA this match (82). Kirk fired a 218 for his second consecutive match. He exceeded the 90-point barrier and fired a 91 prone this match. He also fired his highest kneeling score of the season (79). Lee fired a steady match and scored 228 points. He will finish his first season with a 218.3 average. Wall fired his highest score of the season (226). Wall accomplished personal best scores in prone (94) and standing (56). ALL of the first year shooters have made impressive progress since the beginning of their first season.

The team will place second in the league for the 2007 season with a 4-2 record. We are looking forward to the state tournament next week. Based on the team’s improvement and capabilities, the tournament will be a very competitive match
