Varsity Soccer Beats FUMA

Jeremy Eubank

The Tigers took the field on Tuesday in their third contest of the season against Fork Union Military Academy. In a battle that went back and forth for the entire game, the Tigers were finally able to break the deadlock in the 75th minute to earn their first win of the season 1-0.

Scoring for the Tigers was Paul Hughes (Danville, VA), scoring his first goal of the season, and was assisted by Chad Demarest (Naples, FL) for his first assist of the season. “It was a good effort that we gave for 80 minutes,” said Head Coach Jeremy Eubank. “Anytime you play one of your rivals you know it is going to be a competitive game and that you have to compete for the entire match.”

Goalkeeper John Seepe (Danville, VA) collected his first shutout of the season while saving three shots on target during the match. Additionally, the back line of Demarest, Hayden Everett (Chatham, VA), Jordan Dunn (Charlotte, NC), and Jesse Vogg (Garner, NC) played the full 80 minutes and answered the challenge against one of our fiercest rivals. “Collectively, in the second half we were able to posse the ball, which allowed for us to take control of the game, and create opportunities in the offensive half,” stated Eubank. “By doing so we were able to wear them down and take advantage of our depth.”

The Tigers will return to the pitch on Friday evening in their first VIC clash of the season against Blue Ridge School at 4:30.
