The Tigers hit the road on Tuesday to face VIC conference foe Miller School in Charlottesville. Starting out strong, the Tigers were able to hold off a late rally by Miller for the 6-2 win to improve on the season 10-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in conference.
Opening the scoring in the 11th minute was left forward Caleb Gibbons (Toledo, OH) off of two great connecting passes from center forward Raines Wall (Chatham, VA) and central midfielder Rakan Alshinibr (Saudi Arabia) for the 1-0 lead. In the 19th minute, Gibbons was able to find Wall on a through ball to make it 2-0. Then in the 24th minute, a clearance by right back Kyle Pisciotta started a counter attack that Gibbons was able to find Youssef Abouzied (Cairo, Egypt) to make it 3-0. In the 31st minute, Gibbons was able to break through the backline of Miller to score unassisted to make it 4-0. Then, right before the halftime whistle Wall was able to find the back of the net to make it 5-0 at the break.
“We started out with a lot of energy and focusing on finding feet which allowed for us to turn and get forward,” stated head coach Jeremy Eubank.
In the second half, Miller was able to get back in the game with an own goal by the Tigers in the 55th minute and good passing in the 65th minute to make it 5-2 Tigers. In the closing minutes of the game, Wall was able to find Gibbons for the game’s final goal to make it 6-2 Tigers.
“Playing back-to-back games is always a challenge. However, we were able to prove our fitness level is where it needs to be to be able to finish out our games,” stated Eubank.
The Tigers hit the road one more time this week as they face rival Fork Union Military Academy on Friday at 4:00 PM.
